About us
A legacy of connection across generations
We carry forward three decades of intergenerational work — bringing youth and elders together to awaken empathy, compassion, and respect within our culture.
Bessie's Hope Legacy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides online courses designed for youth of all ages — preschool through high school — as well as families and adults, delivering the education and training needed for informed, enjoyable interaction with the geriatric population.
Our story
In 1993, Linda Holloway and Sharron Brandrup created volunteer programs that involved the entire community. Over their 30-year history, thousands of youth and adults benefited from the intergenerational relationships those programs made possible.
Bessie's Hope Legacy was established to expand that work for a new era — taking the proven power of connection between generations and making it accessible to families, schools, and communities everywhere through online education.
Our mission
We help cultivate life-transforming intergenerational relationships and awaken empathy, compassion, and respect within our culture — reaching more youth groups, families, and individuals every year.
What we're working to change
Ageism
Challenging the negative stereotypes that leave older adults undervalued and unseen.
Isolation
60% of nursing home elders receive no personal visitors. We help change that.
Bullying
Building empathy in young people to counter bullying and social cruelty.
Emotional intelligence
Growing social and emotional skills in youth through real relationships.
Dementia understanding
Helping families and youth connect with loved ones living with dementia.
Caregiver training
Equipping professional and family caregivers to support the geriatric population.
